New Delhi, August 19

A security assessment after Pakistan was rebuffed by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), hints at escalation along the Line of Control (LoC). There could be an attempt by Pakistan and terrorists backed by it to undertake something spectacular. There has been movement of terrorists in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) opposite the ‘Kel sector’ in the northern part of the Kashmir valley.

The LoC is expected to be ‘very active’ as the high Himalayan passes could receive snow in two months from now. The attempt will be to push in a maximum number of armed terrorists, a functionary said.

The instructions are to remain alert against any attempt by the Pakistan army to carry out cross-border raids or to push in armed terrorists. India, for now, does not expect a full-scale military response from Pakistan. That China could rush to Pakistan’s aid is not ruled out.

This help could be covert by way of supplying ammunition or weapons. China was pacified after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited Beijing and assured ‘no change along the Line of Actual Control’ in the newly carved out Union Territory of Ladakh that shares a 823-km frontier with China.
