In the aftermath of Pakistani inmate Shakur Ullah’s alleged murder yesterday, the Rajasthan Government has put the Jaipur Central Jail Superintendent and his deputy on Awaiting Posting Order (APO), and ordered immediate suspension of two other officials.

A high-level inquiry into the killing will be conducted by Inspector General (Jail) Rupinder Singh, said DG Jail NRK Reddy.

Jail Superintendent Sanjay Yadav and Deputy Superintendent Jagdish Sharma have been put on APO and two wardens — Ram Swaroop and Badiyanath Sharma — placed under suspension. The Lal Kothi Police Thana has booked four inmates for their alleged involvement in the killing.

Later in the day, a three-member medical board carried out a post-mortem on the body. Dr Nand Lal, who was part of the board of doctors from Sawai Man Singh Hospital, said the post-mortem report would be submitted to the magistrate.

The Pakistani inmate was allegedly killed in a violent clash with eight other inmates in the television room of the Central Jail here. In 2017, Ullah along with seven others was handed down life term in a 2010 conspiracy case under various sections of the Unlawful Activities of Prevention Act.
