New Delhi, August 2
Though Ayman al-Zawahiri’s death has dealt a severe blow to Al-Qaida affiliates in India, officials in the country’s security set-up have expressed concern over Taliban sheltering terror outfits that have been mainly targeting India. A senior official said the close relations between the Taliban and Al-Qaida were evident from the fact that Zawahiri was stationed in a posh Kabul neighbourhood. “This relationship is detrimental for Indian interests,” he said.
Officials said there was an imminent concern for India with regard to disenchanted Qaida cadres, who might shift their allegiance to the IS and its regional affiliate IS-Khorasan Province. Officials said the killing was bound to affect the morale of Qaida cadres in India.
