Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik also took their first doses today to address the vaccine hesitancy even as active cases reached 1,68,627 on Monday, witnessing a surge for the fifth day in a row.

Apex Court Judges to get jabs from today

The national caseload reached 1,11,12,241, with the toll rising to 1,57,157 after 106 daily deaths. The Health Ministry said more than one million beneficiaries had registered themselves on Co-WIN portal by 1 pm after registrations opened at 9 am today. Several users took to Twitter to report early glitches and many said they were unable to book an appointment with slots filled for weeks.

The glitches were somewhat resolved with many private hospitals reporting better beneficiary registration after 2 pm. The government also issued a clarification, saying: “The registration is to be done through Co-WIN portal and not app, which is for administrators only.” Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka,

Tamil Nadu and Gujarat contributed 87.25 per cent of the 15,510 new cases in the last 24 hours.

These states have been witnessing a consistent upsurge which explained the urgency in the PM’s tone when he appealed to the people to get vaccinated to help achieve population-based herd immunity and avert a potential second wave. “I took my first dose of Covid vaccine at AIIMS. It is remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to strengthen the global fight against Covid,” the PM said.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said none of the deaths of vaccine beneficiaries had so far been linked to the jabs.
