Apple employee Vivek Tiwari (38), who was shot dead by two constables on Saturday morning, was cremated on Sunday after the state government’s written assurance to provide a compensation of Rs 25 lakh and a government job to his widow.

Meanwhile, CM Yogi Adityanath spoke to Vivek Tiwari’s widow Kalpana Tiwari on the phone, said a state government spokesperson. Also, the DGP has apologised to the family.

Services of constables Prashant Chaudhary and Sandeep Kumar have been terminated. They have been remanded in judicial custody till October 11.

Tiwari’s brother-in-law Rahul said the family agreed to cremate the body after the Lucknow District Magistrate assured that a job would be given to his sister in the municipal corporation. He also assured that a compensation of Rs 25 lakh would be provided to the family within a month and a CBI probe ordered into the case, if the family so desired.

Addressing a press conference in the Police Lines, Additional Director General, Lucknow range, Rajiv Krishna said the police was extending 24-hour protection to the family.

He said an SIT under Lucknow IG Sujeet Pandey had begun investigating the matter on the basis of the fresh FIR lodged by the widow in which two constables have been named as accused. “If the family wants a CBI probe, it can also be initiated,” he said.

Tiwari was shot dead by the two constables while he was going to drop an ex-colleague after a late night office party to celebrate the launch of high-end Apple phones.

The accused constables claimed they opened fire in self-defence as Tiwari had tried to mow them down under his car. They said Tiwari was found in a compromising position with his ex-colleague in the car parked at a deserted place.

Injured Tiwari was taken to the hospital by his ex-colleague. The police allegedly made her sign a blank paper on which a “false FIR” was lodged yesterday against some unidentified policemen.

Tiwari’s ex-colleague, however, claimed they were travelling in their SUV when the police tried to stop them. Their vehicle was not parked, as claimed by the police, she said, adding as the policemen appeared drunk, which their medical reports have confirmed, her former boss did not stop the vehicle.

Before they could understand the situation, a bullet came piercing through the windscreen and hit Tiwari, making him lose control over the vehicle that hit the parked motorcycle of the police constables and finally smash into the pillar of a nearby underpass.

Tiwari’s widow Kalpana Tiwari has also demanded action against constable Prashant Chaudhary’s constable wife who, along with her husband, went to the Gomti Nagar police station last evening to lodge an FIR against her deceased husband.

Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya visited the grieving family on Sunday.   “The guilty will be punished severely,” he said.
