Union Home Minister Amit Shah today held a high-level meeting with top MHA and intelligence officials to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir amid reports that around 230 terrorists were brought to terror launch pads by Pakistan to push them into the country.

Officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said during a two-hour deliberation he had with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba among others, Shah was given a detailed presentation on the prevailing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly along the international border and Line of Control.

The Home Minister was also briefed about the steps taken to maintain peace along border areas as well as in the Valley, they said.

Lt Gen KJS Dhillon, General Officer Commanding, 15 Corps, who looks after the Valley, had recently said there had been infiltration attempts from across the border. The officials said while most areas of the Valley were restriction-free, deployment of security forces continued on the ground to maintain law and order. The restrictions were lifted in phases from many parts of the Valley as the situation improved with the passage of time, they added.

In a related development, state Governor Satya Pal Malik met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi and is believed to have briefed him about the security situation in J&K, even as normal life in the Valley remained affected for the 43rd consecutive day on Monday.
