Moments after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan dared India to produce evidence of the Pulwama terror attack, Punjab Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu found himself inviting fresh wrath from within his party.

Among the first to sting Sidhu was Congress veteran Digvijay Singh, whose own run-in with controversies is a matter of legend. “Sidhu ji apne dost Imran bhai ko samhjaiye…uski vajah se aapko gali pad rahi hai,” Digvijay Singh tweeted.

The most stinging attack, however, came from Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari, who said Sidhu should be careful about what he says on Pakistan. “India-Pakistan relationship is not a laughter show. We cannot take Pakistan at face value. Pakistan is adept at running circles around everybody — including the US and China — and we have to be cautious with what we say,” Tewari said.

While Sidhu stands isolated in the Punjab Cabinet, the Congress is taking heart from CM Capt Amarinder’s Singh overtly nationalistic pitch.

Meanwhile, Ludhiana MP Ravneet Bittu attacked Sidhu and called for open condemnation of Pakistan, while minister Sukhjinder Randhawa asked for declaring Pakistan a terrorist state. — TNS
