Telangana police submit Hyderabad ''encounter'' report to NHRC

The Telangana police on Tuesday submitted a report on the killing of all four accused in the Hyderabad gang-rape and murder of a veterinarian to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The report was given to the team of the NHRC team probing the December 6 “encounter”.

Though the contents of the report are not immediately known, it is believed that the police have stuck to its earlier version that the accused attacked the police party which had taken them to the site of the crime and tried to escape. After they snatched two weapons from police personnel and fired at the police party, all four were killed in retaliatory fire at Chatanpally near Shadnagar town.

The police in its report have handed over all the facts collected by it so far after visiting the spot and also gave the copies of the post mortem reports conducted at the Mahabubnagar District Hospital. Even after receiving the report, the seven-member team of the NHRC led by Manzil Saini continued its investigation and again met the two injured policemen at a local hospital.

The report is believed to have in it the DNA tests of the victim and the accused, forensic evidence and other evidence such as CCTV footage of the truck near the scene of the crime and the accused buying petrol at a petrol bunk. Some eyewitnesses were also brought before the NHRC team in support of their report, it is learnt.

Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Telangana government started its probe into the encounter today. The team is being led by Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat and other officials taken from various districts of the state.
