The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) suffered a setback on Tuesday as one of its popular MLAs Nomula Narsimhaiah, representing the Nagarjuana Sagar constituency, died of a cardiac arrest. He was 64.
Narsimhaiah was under treatment for the past few days and died in the hospital.
Narsimhaiah is the second TRS MLA to die in a short span from heart related complications. A couple of months ago Dubbaka MLA Solipeta Ramalinga Reddy had succumbed to prolonged illness.
The by-poll for the Dubbaka Assembly seat recently was won by BJP, increasing its strength in the Telangana Assembly to two.
Narsimhaiah had emerged as a giant-slayer in the 2018 Assembly Elections, defeating seven-time MLA and the then Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy by 7,774 votes. Narsimhaiah had secured 83,653 votes while Jana Reddy got 75,879 votes.
Expressing his condolences, Chief Minister K Chandershekhar Rao said he had lost a colleague and friend and the void left by Narsimhaiah would not be easy to fill.
Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao tweeted, “The sudden death of Nomula Narsimhaiah is extremely unfortunate. His entire life he fought for the people. He lived by the principles he believed in. I express my condolences to his family members.”
Representatives from across party lines also offered their condolences at the death of Nomula Narsimhaiah.
