New Delhi, March 24

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday was apprised of the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed between the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India and Water and Disaster Management Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan in the field of Water Resources.

Subsequently, the Cabinet gave approval for it.

This MoC was signed for the development of long-term cooperation in the field of Water and Delta management, and Water technology in order to increase the exchange of information, knowledge, technology and scientific allied experience, as well as the implementation of joint projects between the two countries.

It will help in achieving water security, improved irrigation facility and sustainability in water resources development.

The Union government has set its priority to beef up its water management. It has already put in place a slew of policies that are under various stages of implementation.

While launching a 100-day "Catch the Rain" on International Water Day on Monday, Modi said water management was at the core of his government's policies.

He said water security is the cornerstone of India's vision for progress and prosperity.
