New Delhi, June 29
The Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced the poll schedule to elect the 16th Vice-President of the country. The voting will take place between 10 am and 5 pm on August 6. The counting, if required, and the result thereof will be declared on the same date.
The term of office of incumbent Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu ends on August 10.
“Counting of votes will be held in New Delhi under the supervision of the Returning Officer,” the ECI said in a statement. “The last date for filing nominations is July 19, while the scrutiny will take place on August 20. The last date for the withdrawal of candidature is July 22,” the ECI said.
Prez poll: 115 nominations received
Rajya Sabha Secretary General, the designated returning officer for the July 18 President's election, received 115 nominations until Wednesday, the last day of the filing papers. TNS
