Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that he and other opposition leaders would visit Jammu and Kashmir on the ‘invitation’ of Governor Satya Pal Malik but did not need an aircraft.

Malik had asked Gandhi to visit J&K and “see the situation for himself” after the Congress leader had said: “people were dying in J&K.”

Malik had also offered to arrange an aircraft for Gandhi’s travel.

In a tweet Gandhi said: “Dear Governor Malik, A delegation of opposition leaders & I will take you up on your gracious invitation to visit J&K and Ladakh. We won’t need an aircraft but please ensure us the freedom to travel & meet the people, mainstream leaders and our soldiers stationed over there.”
