Jaipur, November 12

A woman and her 30-month-old daughter were charred to death while other passengers were evacuated when a Rajasthan Roadways sleeper coach caught fire in the wee hours of Sunday near Kher village in Barmer district.

The deceased were identified as Rekha Singh, 33, and her daughter Kavya hailing from Ravatkhera village in Nagaur district, a senior cop of Pachpadra Thana Krishna Kumar told The Tribune.

The bus was on way from Jaipur to Barmer when it caught fire around 5 am and the bus was engulfed in flames till the fire tenders arrived from Barmer.

The driver and the conductor managed to save 15 other passengers from the inferno but could not evacuate the mother-daughter duo, he said.

The reason of the fire was yet to be ascertained. The Jodhpur-Barmer national highway witnessed traffic jam and a crane was called later in the day to remove the wreckage.
