The district administration is mulling to start a new old-age home in Nahla village here soon.
The district administration has proposed a site in the village where the home would come up on a 52-kanal land at the cost of Rs 7.65 crore.
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma inspected the site and asked Executive Engineer (B&R) Bhagwinder Singh Tuli to start the work soon.
The Deputy Commissioner said a committee had also been set up to ensure regular monitoring of the work.
He said the home would provide shelter and safety to the elderly, who have been either shunned by their own families or do not have anyone to take care of them.
Sharma also stated that the home would also provide facilities such as free medical check-up, ambulance, food, clothes and leisure activities.
SDO Vishal Angural and Red Cross Secretary Paramjit Singh were among those others who were present on the occasion.
