Bathinda, March 27

While many managed to get essentials delivered on their doorstep during the curfew, there is other section of people which cannot even afford the money to buy necessities.

In such situation, many residents have come forward to make sure that the underprivileged do not starve. Members of various NGOs are pitching in help in whatever way possible to reach out to poor people and give them cooked and also raw food items. “Food is a basic requirement, without which one cannot survive. We don’t know how long the restrictions will be in place but we will do our bit by helping those who cannot even afford to buy food,” said Ramesh Mehta, the founder of Aasra Welfare Society.

Mehta, along with other NGO members, have served cooked food to the people affected with leprosy at an ashram near the Multi-Purpose Stadium.

Similarly, members of Sahara Welfare Society have served food to more than 700 people belonging to the economically-weaker section of society and those involved in menial jobs.
