When it comes to splurging public money, the Municipal Corporation does it the best.

The cash-starved corporation is going to put up as many as 10 LEDs — four in the MC House and six in the conference room.

Sources said the work had already been allotted and the LEDs would be put up in a week. The LEDs would cost the state exchequer a whopping Rs 20-25 lakh, the sources added.

The price of a few LEDs is about Rs 6 lakh each.

The MC is spending the money on LEDs without the knowledge of the House and without holding a meeting.

The LEDs to be installed at the House will show the proceedings live. Given the area and structure of the House, there seems to be no need for LEDs. Six LEDs to be installed in the conference room will be used for video-conferencing.

When contacted, MC officials tried to evade the query on the issue. Executive Engineer Kuldeep Singh did not answer the phone call made to him to get his take. Superintending Engineer KP Singh claimed he did not have much knowledge about the project. He said, “Yes, the LEDs are being put up, but I will have to check their number and cost.”
