NRI ‘deserts’ Moga-based wife, booked

Moga, March 3

About nine years after an NRI settled in Canada deserted his wife after cheating her of Rs37 lakh, the police yesterday registered a criminal case against him and three members of his family.

In his police complaint, Ranjit Singh of the district’s Chuhar Chak village said he had married his daughter Satinder Pal Kaur to NRI Arshdeep Singh Toor, a native of Jagraon (Ludhiana) on April 21, 2011.

“I gave Rs35 lakh to Arshdeep and his parents for my daughter’s marriage and spent Rs10 lakh on the wedding,” he said.

After staying here for a couple of weeks, Arshdeep and his parents went back to Canada. They had not returned till now, the father said. — TNS
