Jalandhar, February 20
The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department celebrated the World Soil Health Card Day in all 10 blocks of the district. As a part of the celebrations, the department organised awareness camps in various villages under the Tandarust Punjab mission.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Nazar Singh said officials of the department threw light on the importance of the day and detailed farmers about the Soil Health Card scheme, which will provide them with information about nutrient needs of their land and help use fertilisers judiciously.
He said as many as 63,000 soil samples were collected and 2,33,340 Soil Health Cards had been generated in the district.
Singh said under the scheme, the department analysed various soil parameters, including salt, acid content, nitrogen, phosphorous, potash, zinc, iron and sulphur, and reports were sent to farmers concerned, with recommendations to deal with nutrient deficiency in the soil. — TNS
