Ludhiana, February 20

The MC has disconnected more than 30 water supply and sewer connections of residents who have failed to clear their dues. Besides, the connections of three colonies have also been disconnected.

The MC authorities have appealed to the residents to pay their dues, otherwise action would be initiated against them too.

Superintending Engineer Rajinder Singh said they disconnected 13 connections in Zone B and eight in Zone A. He said they recovered Rs 11.78 lakh from consumers in Zone B and a huge amount from consumers in Zone A.

Superintending Engineer Ravinder Garg said they disconnected nine connections in Zone D and one in Zone C. They recovered Rs 9.50 lakh from consumers in Zone D and Rs 5 lakh in Zone C.

The Department of Local Government has earlier issued a notification offering one-time settlement for recovery of arrears of water and sewerage charges in the urban local bodies. No penalty or interest would be charged if the principle amount of water supply and sewer charges is deposited by May 11, 2020, an official had earlier stated.
