Contrary to the National Highways Authority of India’s initial plans of erecting country’s “biggest” toll plaza in Pachgaon, it will now be reworking the model.

Kherki Daula toll plaza after being shifted to Pachgaon will have just 28 lanes instead of 36, owing to the provision of 10 acre less land by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). The land has been set aside to construct a bus stand and explore Metro expansion.

Given to repeated demands and increased pressure, the effort for the speedy shifting of the toll plaza from Kherki Daula to Pachgaon has been intensified with GMDA completing all formalities to hand over 30 acres to the NHAI.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court, after taking public interest in account, had allowed the allocation of only 40 acres out of acquired 1,128 acre land in Pachgaon for the toll plaza. The land was acquired by HSIIDC and now, GMDA has to take land from HSIIDC and transfer it to the NHAI. GMDA officials said of the 40 acre land, only 30.09 acre would be provided to the NHAI for toll, while a Metro station would be built on the remaining land.

As per the plan, out of 40 acre land in Pachgaon, 7.76 acres would be used to build the Rapid Rail Metro Station. A Rapid Rail Corridor from Delhi to Shahjahanpur in Rajasthan will be built under the Regional Rapid Rail Transit System Scheme towards public transport. In this 107-km corridor, 73 km route will remain elevated and 34 km route will remain underground. A station of this corridor will be built on this land of Pachgaon. The work of inviting tenders for the construction of elevated track and three stations from IDPL, Udyog Vihar to Rajiv Chowk has also started. Apart from this, a multi-modal transit system (MMTC) bus stand will also be constructed in Pachgaon. Separate land will be made available for this.

Relief for local residents, commuters

  • The Kherki Duala toll plaza has 25 lanes on both sides
  • After being transferred to Pachgaon, three more lanes will be built
  • People of the city, especially those living in societies adjacent to Dwarka Expressway, have been demanding the removal of toll for a long time
  • Local people have also gone on hunger strike. A resident said if the toll shifts from here, people will get relief from pollution and jams
