The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed hefty financial penalties on key members of the national team following their disappointing Super Eights exit from the T20 World Cup 2026.

According to reports, each underperforming player, including captain Babar Azam, pacer Shaheen Afridi, and all-rounder Shadab Khan, has been fined PKR 5 million (approximately Rs 17 lakh) after Pakistan’s early exit. The decision reportedly followed their first-round defeat to India in Sri Lanka last month.

Pakistan, drawn in Group A alongside India, the Netherlands, Namibia, and the United States, won matches against associate nations to reach the Super Eights. However, their campaign faltered in the next stage, leading to an early exit from the 20-team tournament.

Sources cited by The Express Tribune stated that the PCB decided to take a stricter approach, emphasising that repeated leniency for poor performances would no longer be tolerated. The board also indicated that future financial incentives will be strictly performance-based, with players required to justify their place in the team to earn rewards.
