Stress and tension remain a  part of the academic life right from the beginning of time. It, in fact, starts to increase as one continues to move up the academic ladder. The present era globalisation and corporatisation with a fiercely competitive environment have made it even more difficult for students to take the challenges posed by exams in an easy way. This occurrence has been especially common among business management students, as, it is one of the most overwhelmingly competitive fields.

Most management students complain that they are not able to focus on their preparation due to palpitation, uneasiness, fatigue, etc.

If you are an MBA aspirant and these symptoms sound familiar to you, it is the ‘all-powerful stress’ that is taking over both your body and mind. Stress itself can become a massive hindrance in your path to success and keep you from being your best version while preparing for your management exam.

Here are some effective stress management strategies for students preparing for CAT or other similar  exams:

See the positives in the management job market

The most important aspect that is required for apt and efficient preparation for business studies is motivation. It has been found that students who keep preparing for a long time tend to feel unenthusiastic and lost in the vastness of the syllabus. Hence, the first thing that you need to remind yourself of is that your peers are all undergoing the same stress, and the best you can do to get over it is by focusing on the golden opportunities waiting for you in the job market ahead. This will help in keep ing your spirits high throughout your study schedule and will aid in your preparation.

This is one of the most effective methods to cut down stress while preparing for an MBA or PGDM exam. Candidates need to understand that business study comprises a dynamic syllabus, which requires concentration that can easily stress out the mind. Reading interesting books, articles, blogs or e-books at this time can work as a great stress buster.

Reading helps boost your memory power and brain functioning and reduces mental stress at the same time.

Interact with peers having the same goal

Students often trap themselves in the monotonous study routine of unimaginable hours. This recommendation is not to discourage the idea of academic dedication, but is instead to make your dedicated hours more effective. Surround yourself with a network of other management students trying to reach the same goal.

In such a company you can be broad-minded about expressing your nervousness, difficulties in understanding a chapter, sharing preparation techniques, and most importantly, participating in group studies.

Unlike other fields, MBA requires an extended classroom environment more than anything, and this is where having a company of like-minded individuals helps.

Besides the above three, there are several other stress-reduction techniques that students will come across along the path, but one of the most critical factors on which a lot depends is the foundation of your business education training.

It is essential that you are surrounded by individuals in your institution who help make your preparation journey easier for you.

Pick a book

Here are some suggestions  to give yourself short reading breaks in between study hours:

  • Money ball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game  by Michael Lewis
  • The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey
