SUV snatching case: Wanted criminal arrested after encounter in Patiala
The Patiala Police on Monday nabbed a 19-year-old, identified as Srover Singh, following an encounter with the Crime Investigating Agency (CIA) team near the Sagrur-Patiala bypass four days after he allegedly snatched an SUV from a Nabha resident. The accused already has a criminal record and faces six FIRs in Patiala, Sangrur and Khanna districts.
Giving information of the encounter, Patiala SSP Nanak Singh said that a team of CIA Patiala, led by SP (Investigation) Yogesh Sharma and CIA Incharge Shaminder Singh was chasing the accused.
“The accused had snatched a SUV Thar on November 21 in Nabha from Chirag Chabbra after attacking him. Following a tip-off, Shaminder and his team members chased the accused, who started firing at the police party”, he said.
“After Srover started firing indiscriminately, the CIA Patiala team also fired on the accused. During the crossfire, the accused sustained bullet injury on his leg,” said Shaminder. “The accused was rushed to the hospital. A separate case against him has been lodged at Passiana police station after we recovered one 32 bore country-made pistol along with cartridges from his possession”, he said, adding that the snatched Silver coloured Thar has also been recovered from the spot.
Meanwhile, the SSP said that the accused is wanted in over six cases in different districts. “Once he is discharged from the hospital, we will take him on police remand to ascertain his role in other crimes”, said the SSP.
