The Regional Saras Mela 2025 commenced at the historic Sheesh Mahal here today.

Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond, who inaugurated the event, emphasised that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab was establishing itself as a major tourism hub by organising such grand festivals.

The fair features artisans from Turkey, Thailand, Egypt, Afghanistan, and 20 Indian states, showcasing their handicrafts, textiles and traditional artworks. Various cultural performances, including folk dances and music from Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and other regions, captivated the audience. Punjabi folk performances, including “bajigar”, “jogis’ been”, “kachhi ghodi”, and “nati” added to the vibrancy of the event.

One of the key attractions of the mela is the selfie points, which have become popular with visitors of all age groups. The mela also offers a wide variety of food stalls, serving Punjabi, Gujarati, Rajasthani, South Indian and international cuisines.

Deputy Commissioner Preeti Yadav urged locals to participate actively in both the Patiala Heritage Festival and the Saras Mela. ADC Anuprita Johal, the mela nodal officer, said all arrangements had been meticulously planned.

Over 150 stalls of handicrafts, phulkari embroidery, wooden furniture, iron and bamboo artefacts, pottery, pickles and traditional sweets have been put up. The event is on till February 23. The North Zone Cultural Centre, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Culture and the Punjab Department of Cultural Affairs, has played a significant role in organising the festival.

Patiala MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli and Mayor Kundan Gogiya were also present.
