Patiala, September 16

The district today recorded the biggest single-day spike in Covid cases. With 292 new cases, the district tally touched 9,468. Further, 10 more persons succumbed to the virus in the district, taking the toll to 262.

Of the fresh cases, Patiala city reported 150, Rajpura 42, Bhadson 27, Harpalpur 17, Shutrana 15, Kallon Majra 10, Kauli 16 and Dudhan Sadhan three.

Only 33 of the total 292 cases were detected during contact tracing while 259 were reported from the containment zones and hospital OPDs.

Of the 10 deaths, five were reported from Patiala city, two from Rajpura and one each from Samana, Nabha and Bhadson.

Civil Surgeon Harish Malhotra said Krishna Colony and lane number 3 in Ekta Nagar on the Patiala-Nabha road had already been converted into micro-containment zones after too many positive cases were reported from those areas.

Dr Harish Malhotra said, “There are multiple factors for the rise in the number of coronavirus cases. These include non-compliance of Covid guidelines by people. Increased testing was another reason for the spike in the infection count.”
