Three days after 111 farmers began fast in solidarity with Jagjit Singh Dallewal, whose indefinite fast entered the 53rd day on Friday, 10 farmers from Haryana joined them today.

The development came just before the second round of talks between leaders of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and the SKM (All-India). The meeting would be held at Patran on Saturday.

A medical team from Patiala, meanwhile, visited Dhabi Gujran village, near Khanauri, and collected blood samples of Dallewal. The team also checked vital health parameters of Dallewal and 111 protesting farmers.

Farm leader Abhimanyu Kohar said Dallewal’s health was deteriorating. He suffered bouts of vomiting around 12 midnight and could consume only around one glass of water since then.

The government medical team should share the current medical status of Dallewal through a medical bulletin, he added.

“We have always maintained that we are open to holding talks with the Centre. We don’t know why the government is taking so long to decide on the issue. Dallewal has lost around 20 kg weight since he began the indefinite fast,” Kohar said.

All farmers on fast in solidarity with Dallewal have refused to take any medical intervention. They began fast on the Haryana side of the Khanauri border under tight security as the Haryana authorities had clamped movement restrictions around their protest site.

Farm leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said 101 farmers would once again attempt a march towards Delhi from Punjab’s Shambhu border on January 21. That would be the fourth such attempt by farmers since December 6, he added.
