Patiala, June 23
With 74 fresh cases, the diarrhoea outbreak at Jhill village in Patiala continues to create havoc in the area. The number of the people, falling sick due to diarrhoea outbreak at Jhill, has risen to 227. Of 227 persons, 32 had been hospitalised, of which 11 have been discharged. However, 21 patients are still under the observation of doctors at various hospitals in Patiala.
Sources informed that a couple of diarrhoea patients were critical. Patiala Civil Surgeon Dr Raju Dhir said the health officials today collected eight more water samples from the outbreak site. Besides, three stool samples were also collected by the officials, said Dr Raju Dhir.
Diarrhoea outbreak was reported on Wednesday after villagers had allegedly drank contaminated water.
Dr Raju Dhir said health officials were going house-to-house in the village to persuade residents to keep the water and food items covered and don’t forget to boil the water before drinking. He said chlorine tablets and ORS packets were also being distributed in the village.
Dr Divjot Singh, District Epidemiologist, said they were continuously running an OPD at the village. He said the patients at the various hospitals were also being monitored regularly. Dr Divjot said, “The situation has improved a lot. We have been asking the villagers to immediately come forward for the treatment if they have any diarrhoea symptoms. ”
