Patiala, August 28

The police today arrested leaders and members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who were protesting outside the residence of Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, since yesterday. Officials said they registered a case against 25 persons and arrested them.

AAP leaders said they had been protesting outside the residence of the Cabinet Minister since yesterday. “We had planned for a long protest. Later, the police came and arrested our leaders,” said Tejinder Mehta of the AAP. Party members, including those from Nabha, Rajpura and Patiala, were protesting over allegations against the minister in a scam related to post-metric scholarship.

Inspector Sukhdev Singh of the Sadar Nabha police station said, “An FIR has been registered against protesters for the violation of district magistrate’s orders and under the Disaster Management Act. They were removed from the protest site and taken to the police station. Later, they were released.”

The police have registered a case against AAP members under Sections 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), Indian Penal Code, and Section 51 of the Disaster management act.
