Bibipur villagers lay siege to DC office
Led by volunteers of the Naujawan Sabha and supported by BKU (Ekta Sidhupur), residents of Bibipur village today laid a siege to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in support of their demands.
They also raised slogans against the government and MLA. They have been sitting on dharna since September 11 in front of the Secretariat, demanding disposal of sewer water, action against encroachment of village pond and felling of 200 trees.
The protesters alleged that supporters of Fatehgarh Sahib MLA have illegally encroached upon the village pond, leading to the accumulation of dirty water on the streets. They said they had submitted a complaint via email to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, MLA and officials of the district administration, but to no avail.
They claimed that supporters of the AAP dug up the playground of the government school and axed over 200 trees to construct a pond for collecting the dirty water.
Owing to the digging, students have been deprived of the playground, they alleged. They declared to continue their dharna till their demands are met.
After the Deputy Commissioner assured them to address their issues and form a committee, they ended the dharna.
