BJP to go solo in Punjab Assembly elections in 2027, reiterates Haryana CM

In his second visit in less than a week, Haryana CM and BJP leader Nayab Singh Saini was on Friday in Patiala district, where he inducted an Akali leader into the party.

Saini also reiterated that his party would go solo in the Punjab Assembly elections next year, putting to rest speculations of a possible tie-up with the SAD — the BJP’s erstwhile alliance partner.

Saini was in Panjola village of Sanaur to facilitate the joining of Akali leader Satpal Singh Panjola into the BJP. He had visited Nabha on Wedenesday as well.

The Friday event was attended by former Union minister Preneet Kaur and BJP’s state working president Ashwani Sharma.

Addressing a gathering, turbaned and Punjabi-speaking Saini tried to strike an emotional chord, describing Punjab and Haryana as “elder and younger brothers”.

“Our houses are the same, our kitchens are the same. We share the same courtyard and the same fields. On November 1, 1966, the younger brother decided to live separately. At that time, people wondered how Haryana would survive,” he said.

Highlighting Haryana’s development trajectory, the Chief Minister claimed that the state today ranked number one in GST and income tax collections.

He said the Haryana Government provided minimum support price for 24 crops and ensured procurement within 48 hours of the arrival of produce in mandis.

He said that farmers were compensated for crop losses due to natural calamities.

Speaking on the sidelines of the function, Saini said the BJP would go solo and contest the 2027 Assembly elections in Punjab on its own.

He said if the BJP government came to power, it would ensure development on the lines of Haryana.

On the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal issue, Saini said whatever decision the Supreme Court took, it would be acceptable to Haryana.
