Covid killed more men than women in Patiala

Covid-19 has killed more men than women in Patiala district.

As much as 61 per cent of the 318 deaths reported due to the virus from the district so far are of men. The virus has claimed the lives of 248 men and 148 women.

Health experts said as men had greater number of infections, their number in the toll was high too. Of 13,133 cases surfaced in the district, 8,560 were males, about 65 per cent.

A health expert said, “There is no study until now on the gender gap in the mortality numbers. One reason could be that women have less chance to contract the virus as compared to men, owing to their lesser outdoor movement.”

However, the mortality rate in men is less. The data gathered from the Health Department showed that 3.2 per cent of all women contracting the virus in the district were succumbing to it against 2.9 per cent males dying of the disease.

In the age-wise break-up, the highest Covid causalities were reported in the age group of 50- 70 years in both genders. As many as 128 males and 90 females in the age-group had succumbed to the virus.
