Patiala, July 26
A heath worker of a mobile Covid vaccination team was allegedly thrashed by PRTC employees at the bus stand here this afternoon. The incident is said to have occurred following an altercation over space for setting up a vaccination booth at the bus stand.
Health officials said a four-member mobile team had gone to the bus stand for Covid vaccination. There was a verbal altercation between a PRTC inspector and Rajesh, the health worker, which turned into a physical face-off. The health worker was allegedly slapped and thrashed by the inspector and bus conductors. The video of the incident is making the rounds on the social media.
Sanjay Bansal, Senior Medical Officer, Tripuri, said, “It is an unfortunate incident, which has demoralised health workers, who have been working day and night.” He added that the health worker was okay as of now.
Health officials have demanded a strict action against the accused.
A senior health official said, “A case should be registered against the accused. If administration fails to take action against the accused, we will hold a protest.”
Poonamdeep Kaur, Managing Director, PRTC, said she had asked the Patiala General Manager to conduct an inquiry.
Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahwney stated that she would look into the matter.
