In view of the deteriorating health condition of farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite fast for 47 days, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) leaders want the venue of the joint meeting of all farm unions to be shifted to Khanauri.

They have written to the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (All-India) to hold their January 15 meeting at Khanauri. “As the health condition of Jagjit Singh Dallewal is worsening, we request you to hold the meeting at Khanauri on January 12 or 13 as we are in no position to leave the morcha here, given the health of our leader,” they said.

During the Moga “mahapanchayat” on Thursday, the SKM (All-India) passed the “Ekta Resolution”, emphasising the need for broad unity among various unions to press for their long-standing demands. On Friday, after meeting Dallewal, all three forums — SKM (All-India), SKM (Non-Political) and KMM — had decided to meet again on January 15.

During a meeting at Dhabi Gujran village, near Khanauri, on Tuesday, the forums had decided to mark the festival of Lohri on January 13 by burning copies of the Centre’s draft National Policy Framework on Agricultural Marketing. They were also planning a nationwide protest on tractors on January 26.

The KMM and the SKM (Non-Political) have announced to hold a series of nationwide protests against the Central Government.

SKM (Non-Political) and KMM leaders on Saturday said the vital health parameters of Dallewal were deteriorating and as per the latest report, his uric acid was 11.65 against the normal range of 3.50-7.20, while his bilrubin levels (direct) were 0.69, which should ideally be less than 0.20 while his total protein, sodium, potassium and chloride levels were also less than the ideal levels.

Earlier this week, a video circulating on social media showed the medical staff rubbing Dallewal’s hands and feet to boost blood circulation as his condition worsened.

On Friday, Dallewal shared a video message targeting the Punjab unit of the BJP. In the nearly three-minute video, he said he had been told that the Punjab unit of the BJP had approached the Akal Takht, urging the Jathedar to direct him to end his fast.

“I feel the BJP leaders are going in the wrong direction. Instead of approaching the Akal Takht, they should approach the office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seek his intervention in resolving the matter,” he had said.
