Intensify war against drugs, Fatehgarh Sahib DC exhorts officials

If we do not take prompt steps to eliminate the menace of drugs, the coming generations won’t forgive us for ruining the lives of youths, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Sona Thind said, while presiding over a meeting with officers of various departments and representatives of NGOs here today called to make the “war on drugs” campaign a mass movement.

Thind directed all the officers to prepare an action plan to make Fatehgarh Sahib, the land of martyrs, drug-free by involving Panchayats, Civic bodies, social and religious organisations. She said the “war” has now reached a crucial phase and if this campaign continues with full force it will soon sound the death knell of drugs from the district and the state.

The DC directed all the SDMs to personally monitor the awareness campaign to make it result-oriented. She said a mass awareness movement should be launched in schools and colleges.

Thind instructed the SDMs to check the private drug de-addiction centers running at the sub-division level from time to time and directed the drug inspector to check the medical stores in collaboration with the police department and take action as per the law against the owners of the medical stores selling drugs.

She furhter directed the education and sports department officials to depute a coach to connect the drug addicts with sports at the government rehabilitation center of Brahman Majra.

The DC asked the officials of the Skill Development Mission to start action to provide training in various vocational courses to bring drug addicts into the mainstream. He asked the DDPOs and Civil Surgeon to organize awareness camps against drugs at the block level.
