Patiala, February 25
Members of the Unemployed Multipurpose Health Workers’ (male) Union went on an indefinite strike today.
Members of the association staged a protest in front of the Baradari Gardens and raised slogans against the state government and the Health Department for not taking cognisance of their long pending demands, including regularisation of their jobs.
Protesters said they had met the Health and Family Welfare Minister, on January 16, wherein, he had assured that the department would advertise vacant posts in the first week of February.
Sukhwinder Singh, member of the association, said inordinate delay in advertising vacant posts, has made hundreds of candidates ineligible.
Sukhwinder Singh, a protester, said the cops misbehaved and snatched tents from us. He said, “On the one hand, the government fooled us through false promises. On the other hand, the government is not allowing us to protest.” TNS
