Joint op launched to clear encroachments vicinity of Patiala bus stand
A joint operation by police, PTRC and civic body was carried out against auto rickshaws creating nuisance near the new bus stand in Patiala.
The action was led by PRTC Chairperson Ranjodh Singh Hadana, Mayor Kundan Gogia, interstate bus terminus managing director Bikramjit Singh Shergill, and Traffic incharge Karamjit Singh.
Hadana while addressing the media said commuters have been complaining that erratic parking of vehicle was leading to heavy traffic jam and leading thousands of commuters stranded each day.
As part of this initiative, strict orders were issued to ensure that auto rickshaws and street vendors operating outside the new bus stand follow regulations. Additionally, auto drivers were warned that failure to comply would result in strict action.
Hadana mentioned that the transport department officials were directed to verify the registration numbers of auto rickshaws and take necessary steps to ensure proper registration.
Furthermore, illegal street vendors stationed outside the bus stand were removed immediately. Following this, Hadana announced that a meeting with senior administrative officials would soon be held to streamline traffic flow outside the bus stand and enhance public convenience. He acknowledged that street vendors were justifying using the space as a means of livelihood, but complaints from the public had necessitated strict action. —TNS
