The Patiala Municipal Corporation has purchased a machine (20,000 liter capacity) to sanitise public areas and markets in the city.

On Tuesday, the civic body had started santisation process by spraying twin oxide with handheld machines.

Similar machines are already being used in other parts of the state to sanitise walls, shutters and parks.

Suresh Kumar, XEN, Municipal Corporation, said the machine has been purchased for Rs 2.60 lakh. “This machine will be used to spray chemical throughout the city. Eight small spray machines are already being used in congested areas. Our first priority is to sanitise public areas, including mandis and markets.” Officials said people should also disinfect their surroundings with sanitisers.

The officials said they will cover areas, including Sheran Wala Gate, area adjoining Kila Mubarak, Gurbaksh Colony, Ram Nahar, Tripuri, Anad Nagar and Bishan Nagar today while other areas will be covered segment wise.

Suresh said, “The effect of spray is expected to last for 90 days on a stretch.”
