Fatehgarh Sahib, June 30
A man died and two others injured as a speeding bus on the Sirhind-Patiala road near Madhopur Chowk hit devotees who were going on foot to the historical Fatehgarh Sahib gurdwara from Patiala to pay obeisance.
Some passengers of the bus also received injuries when the bus driver lost control over the vehicle and it hit a tree. The driver and conductor of the bus fled the spot. The passers-by took the injured to Civil Hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib, and after first aid some of them were referred to Government Hospital, Patiala.
ASI Paramjit Singh of the Sirhind police station said the bus (bearing registration number PB11CF 1945) of a private company was going from Patiala to Ludhiana after crossing the bridge on the Bhakra canal at Adampur village when it hit devotees who were going to the Fatehgarh Sahib gurdwara on foot. One of the devotees, Narendra Singh, died on the spot in the accident. The bus that gone out of control hit a tree due to which some of the passengers were also injured.
The police impounded the bus and started a probe in the matter.
