Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans said the district administration had procured over 2.63 lakh metric tonne (MT) of paddy at grain markets in this procurement season, against the arrival of 2.66 lakh metric tonne of paddy in the district so far. He said Pungrain had procured 1.06 lakh metric tonne of paddy, Markfed 61,690 metric tonne, while 64,420 metric tonne has been procured by PUNSUP, 31,151 metric tonne by Punjab State Warehousing Corporation and 258 metric tonne by the FCI.
He said the payments for the procured crop were also being made. “Payments for 85.41 per cent of the procured crop have been made”, he pointed out. He also advised farmers not to burn paddy straw.
