Patiala Health Dept faces shortage of doctors

Patiala, August 7

After many doctors and other medical staff tested positive for Covid, the Health Department is reeling under employee shortage.

In this week, six senior doctors at Government Rajindra Hospital and three medical officers of the Health Department tested positive.

In fact, along with the district nodal officer, Senior Medical Officer and doctors of the Medicine, Gynaecology and Anesthesia Departments and a senior resident of the ENT Department, Government Medical College, are already down with the virus.

Consequently, 30 more doctors, close contacts of already positive staff, are at the risk of infection. They have been home quarantined. Others found positive include a lab technician, a data entry operator and ANMs. Civil Surgeon Harish Malhotra said 60 employees had already tested Covid positive. “There is an acute shortage of the staff after many members contracted virus. The functioning of the department has also been affected,” he added. — TNS
