Patiala, September 21
The Government Rajindra Hospital authorities have sought an explanation from two staff members — a nurse and a Class IV employee — after a Covid patient was left unattended on stairs in the Covid isolation ward.
A 65-year-old woman was found lying on the stairs of the Covid ward on Saturday afternoon. She died after a few hours.
An explanation has been sought by a three-member committee that had been formed to probe the incident. However, no doctor or consultant has been asked for any explanation so far.
Surbhi Malik, in-charge, Covid ward, said: “We have conducted a preliminary inquiry into the matter. Explanations from some staff members have already been sought. If it was a matter of negligence could only be established after the final report is received.”
Dr HS Rekhi, Medical Superintendent, said two employees had been asked for explanation over the issue. He said: “We have given 24 hours to the two employees to reply. The decision regarding initiating an action will be taken after we receive their replies. Besides, I have continuously been meeting with the staff of COVID ward to implement more precautions — to avoid such unfortunate incidents in future. “
Meanwhile, newly appointed Government Medical College Principal Dr Rajan Singla has already called all doctors for a meeting tomorrow to discuss Covid-related issues. He said: “A meeting has already been called to discuss Covid-related matters. The incident will also be discussed in the meeting.” — TNS
