On February 4, 1986, four Sikh youths were killed when the Punjab Police opened fire on an unarmed Sikh congregation that had gathered in Nakodar to protest the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. To probe this tragic incident, the then Punjab Government had constituted the Justice Gurnam Singh Commission, a part of whose report was tabled during a session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha last year.
Speaking to mediapersons on the occasion, Misl Satluj youth leader Yadvinder Singh Yadu said even after 40 years, the killers of the Sikh youths had not been punished and their families were still awaiting justice.
He said the present government had promised before the elections to conduct a thorough investigation into the Nakodar incident and ensure strict punishment for the guilty, but no concrete action was taken in this connection so far.
