Punjab Child Rights Commission Chairperson Kanwardeep Singh has taken suo motu notice of the incident involving the alleged assault on a 10-year-old boy in Rishi Colony, Patiala, after videos purportedly showing the injured child made their way to social media.

Today, Singh visited the injured child undergoing treatment at the Rajindra Hospital to check on his condition. He later held a meeting at the District Administrative Complex with Deputy Commissioner Preeti Yadav and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nanak Singh, instructing strict action against the accused. Joint Director Rajwinder Singh Gill was also present at the meeting.

Expressing deep sorrow over the incident when a hot iron press was allegedly used to burn the child, Singh said the Commission will deal with such cases strictly. He directed the police to ensure the punishment for the culprits, emphasising that no accused should be spared. He further assured that such incidents would not be tolerated, and exemplary punishment would be ensured for those responsible.

The chairperson appreciated the swift action by the district administration and police, which not only ensured the child’s medical treatment but also led to the immediate arrest of the prime accused.

The child was adopted legally by his parents a few years ago.
