Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests patwari for taking Rs 10,000 bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) today apprehended Sohan Gir, Amam Nagar revenue halka patwari, Karhali village in Patiala district, while he was allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
An official spokesperson of the state VB said the revenue official had been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Gurdev Singh, a resident of Amam Nagar, Karhali village in Patiala district.
He added the complainant had approached the VB and alleged the said patwari had been demanding illegal gratification of Rs 10,000 for mutation of land belonging to his grandfather in his name.
The spokesperson added after preliminary verification of allegations levelled in the complaint, a VB team laid a trap in which the said patwari was arrested red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
He added a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act had been registered against the said patwari at VB police station, Patiala range. “He would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress,” a VB official said.
