The peaceful protest of Punjabi University’s Assistant Professors (guest faculty) has entered its 100th day. For over three months, the educators have been sitting on a peaceful protest, seeking recognition of their contributions and a salary hike.

They have also been critical of a lack of dialogue from the administration, saying, “Orders from the Punjab and Haryana High Court guaranteeing fair pay have been ignored, and every appeal has been met with indifference.”

The teachers have made repeated attempts to engage the administration in dialogue, but their efforts, they say, have been futile. The educators are demanding a basic salary of Rs 57,700. —TNS
