Patiala, October 8

Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Arvind has flagged irregularities in the functioning of faculty members of various departments. In an email addressed to the faculty, he said a number of faculty members were either not holding regular classes or sending proxy teachers, including research students, to teach their classes.

The VC, who has himself started teaching a course in physics, said it helped him in interacting with students.

“Every faculty member of each department at Punjabi University is expected to teach. If the department that he is associated with does not have an associated teaching programme, faculty members are expected to participate in appropriate teaching programmes,” the VC added.

“There is no provision for not taking a class or not coming to the department for an entire day. Taking classes is mandatory and any violation will be taken seriously,” the VC said.

The VC further pointed out, “There is no provision for sending a proxy teacher such as your research student to the class in your place.”

“In case there is difficulty in teaching a class on a given day, then alternative arrangements should be made and the head of the department should be informed,” the VC added.
