Punjabi University, Patiala, have congratulated 33-year-old archer Harvinder Singh who has been conferred with Padma Shri.

At the 2024 Paris Paralympics, Harvinder defeated Poland’s Lukasz Ciszek 6-0 in the final of the Men’s Individual Recurve Open to clinch India’s 4th gold medal. He is currently pursuing his PhD in the Department of Economics at the university.

Harvinder hails from Kaithal district in Haryana and has a remarkable track record in para-archery. During the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, he secured a bronze medal. In 2018, he won a gold medal at the Asian Para Games in Jakarta.

Dean of Academic Affairs Prof Narinder Kaur Multani, expressed immense pride in Harvinder’s achievements, stating that he has brought global recognition to Punjabi University.

She highlighted that his success is not only a source of inspiration for athletes but also for students across various fields.

Registrar Prof Sanjeev Puri said by receiving Padma Shri, Harvinder has elevated both his own reputation and that of Punjabi University.

Sports Department Director Prof Ajita emphasised that Harvinder’s journey to receiving national and international accolades shows that determination and hard work can overcome any challenge.
