‘Rab di Bukkal’ staged on Day 1 of week-long theatre festival

The North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC) in collaboration with Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust and Kalakriti Patiala is organising the week-long Pritam Singh Oberoi Memorial National Theatre Festival at Kalidasa Auditorium, Virsa Vihar Kendra, Patiala.

Justice Jaspal Singh, Justice Harpal Singh and Gurjit Singh Oberoi were chief guests on the first day of the festival.

In the first session, a Kathak performance by Arshdeep Kaur Bhatti was followed by play ‘Rab Di Bukkal’. Vinod Kaushal had directed the play based on Veena Verma’s story ‘Rajai’. It highlighted the plight of women whose husbands have gone abroad. The various characters were well played by actor and producer Parminder Pal Kaur. Kaur, who is also director of the festival, said the play ‘Buddha Mar Gaya’ will be staged on November 8.

She said over 125 artistes from six states will showcase their talent at the festival. Kaur added that accommodation, food and drink arrangements for the artistes have been made by Kalakriti Patiala.

Art chairman Manjit Singh Narang (ex-IAS), national president of Sarbat da Bhala Charitable Trust Jassa Singh Sandhu, president Avtar Singh Arora and vice president Satinderpal Kaur were among those present on the occasion.
