Patiala, July 8

Rains lashed the city on Tuesday night and brought down the temperature in Patiala. The downpour continued till Wednesday afternoon, leaving office-goers and commuters stranded due to the accumulation of water on roads.

The Meteorological Department recorded 54.8 mm of rainfall on Tuesday night. The region has witnessed 185 mm of rainfall since June 1 already.

Chandani Chowk, Arna Barna Chowk, Books Market, Old Lal Bagh, Sabzi Mandi and area outside the Department of Languages were inundated for hours.

The matter has attracted criticism from Opposition parties. Aam Aadmi Party leaders today alleged various works of development were started in the city, but had been incomplete for a long time now. “The Patiala Municipal Corporation officials claim they are ensuring that rainwater is cleared from roads and the drains are clean, but have failed in it,” they said.

Officials in the Municipal Corporation said they were working on cleaning of the drains in the city.
