The district administration has started taking steps and have urged residents for cooperation in ensuring waste disposal practices.

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, Deputy Commissioner Dr Preeti Yadav visited the material recovery facility (MRF) of the Municipal Corporation at the Focal Point, where wet and dry waste is segregated. She also inspected the garbage dump and the sewage treatment plant (STP), urging residents to cooperate with the administration in reducing waste and ensuring environmentally sound waste disposal practices.

Dr Yadav emphasised that every citizen must take the responsibility for reducing waste at the source, ensuring 100 per cent segregation of wet and dry waste, and recycling reusable materials. She said by following these steps, Patiala could achieve its goal of becoming a clean, green and garbage-free city. She also encouraged residents to plant saplings.

The DC directed the MC to fully utilise the 10-tonne-per-day capacity of the MRF and the plastic recycling facility at the Focal Point. She stressed the importance of collecting waste separately in accordance with the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal to prevent accumulation of waste.

During her visit to the dump site on Sanour Road, Dr Yadav instructed civic body officials to expedite the disposal of accumulated garbage. She also reviewed the functioning of the STP and expressed satisfaction over the quality of the treated waste water.
